Southern Stays: The Historic Brookstown Inn

Southern Stays is a series in which we will review a property, whether it be a hostel, hotel or other form of accommodation. To suggest a property please leave a comment or email us.

Originally home to Winston-Salem’s first factory, the Historic Brookstown Inn was established as a Moravian cotton mill in 1837. A few years later it became a flour mill and then an abandoned building before its 1970s designation as a historic landmark. In November 1984, the Historic Brookstown Inn opened downtown. In 2013, a cat named Sally became the hotel’s mascot, which you’ll likely see stretching out in the sun and on the cover of the inn’s postcards.

The inn has over forty guest rooms that include free WiFi, flat screen televisions, and coffee-makers. Plus bedding makes your stay comfortable, as does the living area set apart by a loft. A breakfast buffet is included in your stay, which features fresh coffee, pastries, cereals, and bread. An evening wine and cheese reception introduces you to your fellow guests or warm cookies and milk at bedtime if that’s more your speed.

Additional amenities of the inn include event spaces, free onsite parking, and a fitness center. Best of all, the Historic Brookstown Inn is located a short walk from Old Salem Museums & Gardens and downtown Winston-Salem. The visitor’s center is located just across the courtyard for when you need suggestions on what to see in town or maps.
