Southern Stays is a series in which we will review a property, whether it be a hostel, hotel or other form of accommodation. To suggest a property please leave a comment or email us.
Hotel Indigo is a unique chain of hotels that are a part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, but each property is unique to its location. They could be in historic buildings or in hip neighborhoods, but the brand does its best to incorporate a local experience for travelers. The Athens location is no different. The design of the building itself is based upon the covered bridges found in the area.
There are rooms and suites, as well as the penthouse level. Rooms include flat-screen televisions, desks, coffee makers complete with local Jittery Joe’s coffee and, in an effort to be “green,” recycling bins. WiFi is available in your room and is complimentary. Bathrooms are stocked with Aveda products. The building itself is LEED certified and the property is pet-friendly. Parking is plentiful and included in your stay.
Popular on football game weekends, the hotel is within walking distance to The University of Georgia campus and downtown Athens‘ many bars and restaurants. They offer special packages for game weekends and have a loyalty program for parents of UGA students who visit frequently and stay at the property. It’s also well located to those attending concerts at the 40 Watt Club or Georgia Theatre.
Onsite there’s also Madison, the cafe and coffee shop that offers breakfast and dinner daily. They use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible, from the Ike and Jane pastries to craft beer from Terrapin Beer Co. and Creature Comforts Brewery. The hotel fitness center features ellipticals, treadmills, and weights.
What makes the Hotel Indigo Athens unique from other properties in Athens and beyond is its two art gallery spaces. The Gallery @ Hotel Indigo Athens and Glass Cube offer a changing range of works from local and national artists.
