Built in 1927 as a luxury apartment building, The Pontchartrain became a hotel in the 1940s, hosting notable guests such as Frank Sinatra, The Doors, and President Gerald Ford. Native son Tennessee Williams also worked on A Streetcar Named Desire while staying at the property. Long a favorite of locals during Mardi Gras, it was restored in 2015 for a new generation of visitors to enjoy. It’s one of the most stylish and affordable places to stay in New Orleans.

Rooms come complete with mini bars, flat-screen televisions, bathrobes, and sweeping views of the Mississippi River. Unique artwork makes the space feel homey, retaining its apartment-like atmosphere. King, queen, and family suites are available.

Located in the scenic Garden District, the St. Charles streetcar runs right in front of the hotel. It’s a short walk from Amtrak and Megabus and a 20-minute drive to the airport. Dozens of restaurants are within walking distance, as is the French Quarter and Warehouse District. Within the hotel, there’s The Caribbean Room and Silver Whistle Cafe as well as the Bayou Bar and Hot Tin, located on the rooftop.
