Built in 1986, The Charleston Place Hotel shaped the Market area of downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The European-inspired design is just one aspect of what makes it the city’s most acclaimed hotel. Previously owned by the Belmond group, it’s now independently owned by Beemok Hospitality Collection, a group of local investors.

Some also have balconies. Bed options are king and double, depending on the room size. The bathrooms have incredible marble surfaces, plush bathrobes, luxury toiletries, and rain showers and soaking bathtubs.

Amenities at Charleston Place Hotel

One of the best amenities at Charleston Place is the rooftop patio with the Clocktower Terrace, a seasonal bar, and an indoor pool. There’s a hot tub area and the fitness center, along with the spa, where you can get a massage or other treatment.

On the lower level, there’s a series of shops including swimwear, luxury clothing, and an art gallery that highlights the work of local artists, including the hotel’s artists in residence. A gift shop sells Charleston goods like clothing and items from companies like Brackish Bowties. The hotel also has a grand chandelier, where Christmas decor is on full display during the holiday season.

In addition to the Clocktower Terrace, which has a full bar and light bites, the majority of the restaurants at Charleston Place are on the lower level. Community Perk is a coffee shop where you can pick up a breakfast pastry and drink.

Open for breakfast and lunch, Palmetto Cafe has a beautiful atrium setting where you can enjoy she crab soup, crab omelets, and local oysters. Make a reservation if you want to dine at Charleston Grill, one of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants. The foie gras, crab cake, and carefully selected wines can’t be missed. *Update: the restaurant has since closed and is undergoing a transition.*

Meeting at Market is a lively sports bar where you can get local beers on draft as well as burgers and sandwiches. At the Thoroughbred Club, watch live music and sip cocktails. There’s also a limited food menu if you’re feeling peckish. Room service is also an option.

Tips for Staying at Charleston Place Hotel
