Set in Prohibition Virginia, the three Bondurant brothers make their living as bootleggers in Lawless. When a special deputy comes in from Chicago to cause trouble, the brothers deny him a cut of the profits, but at a cost.
Based on a true story, this film stars The Help‘s Jessica Chastain, Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, and Gary Oldman.
It was adapted from the book The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant. The history of bootlegging and moonshine production in the southern United States is fascinating. This movie, however, isn’t for the squeamish as there is a great deal of graphic violence.
