Southern Stays: Hotel Covington

Hotel Covington lobby

Hotel Covington is a boutique hotel in downtown Covington, Kentucky, just across the bridge from Cincinnati, Ohio. The building itself was built in 1912, the state’s first skyscraper, and retains some of its historic charms.

Called Coppin’s Department Store, the luxury shop came out of a winning horse race bet. Men could come here to be decked out in the finest shirts and ties. The lobby still has shirt collars as a nod to this time as well as a gift shop selling locally made faux fur.
