Southern Stays: Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge

March 26, 2018 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

Located north of Dawsonville, Georgia, Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge is one of the Adventure Lodges of Georgia in the Georgia State Parks system, which offers countless activities for outdoors enthusiasts.

Set atop the mountain, the views from the lodge’s porch are worth the winding drive. It’s also a popular setting off point for hikers, with the Appalachian Trail approach trail to the start point at Springer Mountain.

Rooms at Amicalola Falls State Park

The 57 lodge rooms are modernly furnished and as comfortable as you’re sure to find anywhere nearby. Rooms and suites come with bottled water, WiFi, coffee and tea, a flat-screen television, workspace, and a bathroom with a bathtub and toiletries.

There are also loft rooms, which are perfect for families. Cabins come in one, two, and three-room varieties for any size group, located at various points throughout the park.

They also have full kitchens, so you won’t have to leave to dine out, as well as heating and air conditioning, TVs, and fireplaces. RV and tent camping are available with water, power, grills, and fire rings. Cabins and campsites are also pet-friendly.

Amenities at Amicalola Falls State Park

Because of its remote location, with the closest grocery store 12 miles away and other restaurants over 20 minutes away in Big Canoe, many guests dine at the lodge’s restaurant, which is open throughout the day. They also have a snack stand at the top of the falls that is open seasonally and a few bites available at the visitor’s center.

In addition to the miles of trails, Amicalola Falls State Park has a stocked fish pond, paddleboarding courses, fly fishing classes, archery, and a popular zipline course. They also have classes for backpackers setting off on long-distance hikes to teach how to hang bear bags and other survival skills.

Tips for Staying at Amicalola Falls State Park

Amicalola Falls State Park is located at 418 Amicalola Falls Road, Dawsonville, Georgia 30534. Parking is included with your resort fee if you’re staying at the lodge, and $10 to visit for the day. Rates start at $150 for lodge rooms and suites, $200 for cabins, and $30 for campsites. Book your stay by calling 1-800-573-9656 or visiting their website.

My stay was hosted by Amicalola Falls State Park and Hemsworth Communications.
