Plant Riverside District

In 2020, the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District opened on Savannah’s River Street. Set in the former power plant building, local hotelier Richard Kessler had been working on this particular property for many years.

He previously opened the Bohemian Hotel. The riverfront property is made up of three buildings and is a wildly different experience from the historic inns found throughout the city. It’s also one of the best hotels in Savannah.

The first thing that guests see when entering the JW Marriott Savannah is the incredible collection of Kessler’s artifacts from around the world. Massive geodes sit at the lobby entrance, and cases contain minerals and meteors, all for sale for the right price. A silver dinosaur skeleton hangs from the ceiling as rainbow-hued lights brighten the industrial space.

The three buildings are named the Power Plant, Three Muses, and the Atlantic. Each has a different decor style and theme, incorporating colors from the sections of the building. Many elements from the original use are still present, including the massive silos that now have conference rooms and other uses.

In total, there are over 300 pet-friendly rooms and 45 suites spread across the three buildings and six floors. Rooms have king or two queen beds, along with amenities like free wifi, mini-fridges, coffee makers, and flat-screen televisions.

Bathrooms have plush bathrobes, luxury toiletries, and hairdryers. The hotel is also home to a spa, a fitness center, and a business center with computers. Guests can also shop at the boutiques in the lobby and in the Plant District. There’s also yoga offered on the lawn.

Dining at the JW Marriott Savannah

The JW Marriott Savannah has three in-house restaurants. Turbine Market + Cafe is a casual coffee shop and restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as to-go options. Stone & Webster Chophouse is the hotel’s upscale steakhouse. Baobab Lounge is inspired by Kessler’s travels in Africa, with dishes like biltong along with cocktails.

In the Plant District, steps away from the hotel, are even more options. Graffito is a Neapolitan-style pizzeria with a massive Greg Mike mural. District Seafood has fried seafoo,d and Riverside Sushi has basic Japanese offerings.

Savannah Tequila Company has authentic Mexican fare crafted by a chef from Mexico. District Smokehouse has Southern-style barbecue and sides. Caffeinate at the outpost of Starbucks or enjoy a sweet treat at District Gelato.

Drinking at the JW Marriott Savannah

Electric Moon Skytop Lounge

In addition to the drink options at the Plant District restaurants, the JW Marriott also has places to imbibe. Electric Moon Skytop Lounge is a fun rooftop spot with a slide and lawn games, along with the signature drink, the Electric Moon Lemonade.

Located in the Three Muses building, Myrtle & Rose Rooftop Garden has an Alice and Wonderland theme with whimsical drinks and light bites. Reservations are recommended for the rooftop bars. Riverside Biergarten serves German and American beer but also has pretzels and bratwursts.

Tips for Staying at the JW Marriott Savannah
