Southern Stays: Ponte Vedra Inn and Club

April 20, 2022 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

Ponte Vedra Inn and Club

Located between St. Augustine and Jacksonville, Florida, the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club was established as a membership club in 1928 and became a popular annual getaway for travelers from throughout the East Coast. During World War II, three Nazi agents came ashore here before being captured. The history is detailed with exhibits in the inn, with vintage room keys and photos.

In 1941, the Lodge and Club opened 1.5 miles down the beach, adding to the property’s footprint with additional guest rooms, dining, and shops. Today, there are still members, but also overnight guests who can enjoy the luxurious experience.

The AAA Five Diamond property has 262 guest rooms in total, spread across ten buildings. This includes the recently renovated Atlantic, Ocean, and St. Johns houses that have beachfront access. There are also standard rooms, a penthouse suite, and a presidential suite.

My oceanfront suite had a king bed, a bathroom with a clawfoot tub and shower, a kitchen and living area, and a balcony that went straight onto the sand. It also came equipped with a mini fridge and coffee maker.

The Ponte Vedra has several dining options to choose from. The Inn Dining Room has breakfast options like avocado toast and breakfast sandwiches. The Gourmet Shop has casual sandwiches and coffee for a bite on the go. Seahorse Grille is on the top floor, with a massive aquarium tank and a seafood-heavy menu.

The Inn also has The Tavern, the onsite bar, the seasonal Surf Club Patio, the Golf Club Dining Room, and the seasonal Beach Side Snack Bar. The Lodge has The Oasis, the seasonal Barefoot Bistro, the 360-degree Seaview Grille, with its local fish and smoked Old Fashioned, and the adjacent lounge.

Guests have access to a wide range of activities within the resort. The gym overlooks the ocean and has equipment and classes like yoga offered daily. There are multiple pools, including one for adults only. You can also borrow bikes and beach chairs from the activities center.

The spa is a big draw, with 30,000 square feet of treatment rooms, a cafe, an outdoor pool, and saunas. It’s the perfect spot to pamper yourself before a poolside drink. The resort also has tennis courts and golf courses, with the first island hole in North Florida.
