Southern Stays: Proximity Hotel

February 23, 2022 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

Proximity Hotel
Proximity Hotel

For visitors to Greensboro, North Carolina, the Proximity Hotel is legendary. While not in the heart of downtown, the property is the first LEED platinum-certified hotel in America, which is much of the draw. The solar panels on the roof of the building are the first indicator that this is not your average hotel.

It’s located in an office park area next to an artificial lake. If you’re interested in visiting the nearby universities or the historic landmarks, like the International Civil Rights Museum, you’ll need to make the short drive to downtown.

The Proximity Hotel has 147 guest rooms on 8 floors, including 6 suites. All are loft-style in layout. Each room has free WiFi, televisions, seating areas, cozy bathrobes, and Aveda bath products. Rooms also have coffee makers, mini fridges, and microwaves. Each floor also has an area with hot and cold water.

The furniture is sourced locally and all contain original artwork by artist-in-residence Chip Holton. There are abundant hooks around the room, in a Shaker style, and design magazines are available for perusing at your leisure.

Amenities at the Proximity Hotel

Social Lobby

Entering the building, guests are greeted by the staff at the front desk. There’s a small seating area before the elevator bank. From there, there is a set of spiral staircases that open up to what’s known as the Social Lobby, a more welcoming space for relaxing. It’s centered around the Bluebell Garden in the courtyard, where you can also have a meal.

Parking is free for guests, but valet is also available. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, open seasonally, and a 24-hour fitness center with treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and weights.

Dining at The Proximity Hotel

Print Works Bistro actually predates the hotel and is reached through a glass walkway from the social lobby or from the parking lot at street level. The restaurant is open for weekday breakfast, weekend brunch, and nightly dinner. My favorites were the quiche Lorraine and breaded chicken.

Tips for Staying at The Proximity Hotel

The Proximity Hotel is located at 704 Green Valley Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27408. Rates start at $289 per night. They also offer a business traveler loyalty program with discounted rates. Book your stay here or call (336) 379-8200.
