Southern Stays: The Louis Hotel

January 10, 2025 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

The Louis Hotel

The small towns of the Arkansas Delta may not be on every traveler’s radar, but they should be. The Louis Hotel opened in 2023 in the town of Wilson, which is located between Memphis and Little Rock on the famous Blues Highway.

The small town of 900 residents was founded in 1886 around a sawmill and named for the company founder, Robert E. Lee Wilson. It remained a company town for several years, and many of the buildings have been converted, including the century-old Tudor building where the hotel is located. Wilson was purchased in 2012, paving the way for developments like the hotel and restaurants.

Travelers come to Wilson to enjoy the pace of the small town and take part in the activities. The Tin House Golf Club and The Field Club offer golf, trap, and skeet shooting. The Hampson Archeological Museum downtown features artifacts from the Indigenous people who lived in the region. The Johnny Cash Home is a 20-minute drive away in the community of Dyess, where the Man in Black spent his early life.

Grab a meal at Wilson Cafe or the Grange at Wilson Gardens, both of which feature the best local ingredients like Delta-grown rice and farm-raised catfish. The Grange also hosts weekly trivia. There’s even an outpost of Nashville -based White’s Mercantile for curated clothing and gifts.
