Staying at Wild Dunes Resort

January 18, 2023 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

Wild Dunes
Wild Dunes

Wild Dunes Resort is located 18 miles outside downtown Charleston along the South Carolina coast on Isle of Palms. Like Kiawah Island Golf Resort, it’s accessible via Charleston International Airport and is an easy drive.

Set on 1,600 acres, the resort was first developed in 1972 and has gone on to become a popular getaway for families year after year. The gated area sets it apart from the rest of the island, but it has access to the stores and restaurants nearby. It’s now a Hyatt-operated property, so you can earn points.

Wild Dunes is made up of multiple accommodation options, including the AAA Diamond Boardwalk Inn and the Sweetgrass Inn. The Boardwalk Inn has 93 coastal-inspired rooms and suites, including ADA rooms. Amenities include free WiFi, coffee makers, and access to the adult-only Boardwalk Inn pool and cabanas.

The newer Sweetgrass Inn has charming rooms with balconies. The Residences at Sweetgrass are next to the inn with the hotel’s amenities and range from one to three bedroom suites with coffee makers and mini fridges.

The resort also manages vacation rentals like three to seven-bedroom homes and one to three-bedroom condos that are well-suited to families. Guests of the rentals have access to the same amenities as well as bike and beach rentals, and in-resort transportation.

Wild Dunes Resort has so many restaurants to choose from, including some open seasonally. Coastal Provisions is open all day, but reservations are recommended for dinner to enjoy dishes like she crab soup and pasta.

Hudson’s Market has quick-serve items like sandwiches and drinks. Woody’s Eatery is similar, with bagels and other bites near the swim and tennis area. Huey’s Southern Eats on the Links golf course has burgers and nachos to fuel up before teeing off.

Tacos & Tequila is a seasonal Airstream trailer selling tacos, Mexican beer, and margaritas. Coastal Crust is an outpost of a local pizza chain with wood-fired pizzas and pasta.

Open seasonally, Beachside Burgers & Bar has burgers and frozen drinks, while Laughing Gull Restaurant & Bar on the pool deck offers tropical drinks, sandwiches, salads, and tacos. Duney’s Ice Cream is another seasonal snack option.
