Big Fish is a Southern Gothic tale directed by one of my favorite directors, Tim Burton. Billy Crudup plays a son trying to learn the true stories about his father, played by Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor, instead of the tall tales he's heard all his life. But what he discovers is that the stories are more real than he knew. It creates flashbacks between Edward Bloom's … [Read more...] about Film Friday: Big Fish

Film Friday: A Time to Kill
Based on the John Grisham bestseller, this film is intense from start to finish. A young black girl is raped and nearly killed by two white men. When it seems that the men are going to be released, the girl's father, played by Samuel L. Jackson, takes the law into his own hands and shoots the men. What proceeds is the trial of the century and the rebirth of the Ku Klux … [Read more...] about Film Friday: A Time to Kill
Film Friday: Beasts of the Southern Wild

Headstrong Hushpuppy, played by the talented newcomer Quvenzhane Wallis, lives with her father Wink in a coastal area known as The Bathtub. Hushpuppy is fiercely independent, living in her own house, and has been toughened up by her father. When he falls ill, she sees visions … [Read more...] about Film Friday: Beasts of the Southern Wild
Film Friday: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Based on one of my favorite F. Scott Fitzgerald stories, this film definitely lived up to the hype that surrounded it. Benjamin is born looking like an old man and gradually becomes younger. Abandoned by his father, he comes to live with a maid at a nursing home in New Orleans. Benjamin travels the world and is reunited with Daisy, the granddaughter of one of the tenants. … [Read more...] about Film Friday: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The story of The Patriot mixes the birth of America as a nation with one man's revenge against the British soldier who burned down his plantation and hurt his family. It made a star out of the late Heath Ledger. Botany Bay Plantation on Edisto Island was one of the main … [Read more...] about Film Friday: The Patriot
