Southern Stays: The Roost Boutique Hotel

September 28, 2022 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

The Roost
The Roost

Open since 2017, the Roost Boutique Hotel is an 19-room property in downtown Ocean Springs, Mississippi, not far from the casino city of Biloxi. Spread across multiple buildings, the hotel places a heavy emphasis on high design and Southern charm.

The boutique hotel is a short walk from downtown and is covered in artwork inspired by Walter Anderson, authorized by the family. The same company owns other properties, including The Beatnik, The Hemingway, and the Inn at Ocean Springs.

The historic Porter House is one of the buildings within the hotel, home to upstairs and downstairs rooms. There are king and queen bed options. Some suites have large living rooms for entertaining as well as sleeper sofas and full kitchens.

In the Oak House, you’ll find eight additional rooms. Amenities of all suites include block prints from Walter Anderson, free WiFi, plush bedding, and smart lock access. Some also have access to the porch, with rocking chairs. Others are only accessible via stairs.

Guests can also enjoy locally roasted coffee from Coast Roast, tea, mini-fridges, and microwaves. The bathroom is stocked with Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and a large shower.

Amenities at The Roost Hotel

Roam the grounds, and you’ll find a large art piece inspired by Anderson, created by his son. It has one of many seating areas where guests can unwind. In the back, there’s a heated outdoor plunge pool with lounge chairs and day beds. Towels and showers are also available.

The Wilbur is The Roost Hotel’s onsite bar, which feels like a speakeasy. There’s a small bar area in the front with a wall of spirits and a few booths and stools. But open the door to the back and you’ll find a larger space with a mural of Al Capone. Settle in with one of Mississippi’s own Wonderbird Gin and tonic and small bites.
