Southern Stays: The Sanderling Resort

August 5, 2025 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

The Sanderling Resort
The Sanderling Resort

Located on 14 scenic acres between the Atlantic Ocean and Currituck Sound, The Sanderling Resort is the only full-service resort on the Outer Banks, recently redesigned to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025. Originally named The Sanderling Inn, it opened in 1985, named for the shorebirds found in the area.

The resort has several types of accommodation for all sizes of groups. The guest rooms and suites are in the main building, with coffee makers and other amenities. Some rooms also have private balconies and large walk-in showers. The resort also has residences for more space and extended stays.

Amenities at The Sanderling Resort

A resort fee covers perks like private beach access, beach chairs, umbrellas and towels, high-speed wireless internet, and lawn games. The property also has two pools, including one just for adults with a whirlpool, and a fitness center. The spa has treatments and a steam room.

Guests can also enjoy daily activities on the property and nearby, like yoga on the deck, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and horse tours. Those traveling with pets have amenities tailored to their furry friends.

Dining at The Sanderling Resort

The Sanderling Resort has several dining options, including, most recently, Theodosia. Located across the street from the main building, it’s thoughtfully designed and offers coastal cuisine from North Carolina chef Vivian Howard.

The Lifesaving Station is another, set in a historic lifeboat house, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with local seafood. The Sandbar is seasonal, with the typical poolside fare, and the Beach House Bar is the best spot for a morning coffee and pastry.

Tips for Traveling to The Sanderling Resort

The Sanderling Resort is located at 1461 Duck Road, Duck, North Carolina 27949. Rates start at $260 and include self-parking. The property also has electric car charging stations. Book your stay by visiting their website or by calling (855) 412-7866.
