Open since 1950, the Hattiesburg Zoo is a beloved landmark on 12 acres in Kemper Park. Set amongst the pine trees, the zoo supports conservation projects for animal welfare through the facility as well as abroad.

The zoo is broken up into multiple geographical areas, including Asia, Australia, and Africa. The African pavilion has the new giraffe habitat while Asia has lanterns and flags. Australia features posters of products like Vegemite, the famous snack.

But the animals aren’t the only thing to see! Gem mining at Mining Expedition is a popular activity, along with the High Ropes Adventure Course that climbs above the Australian pavilion. Or take a train ride in the train that loops around the park. There are also carousel rides, a splash pad, and the Bug Hub playground.

The creatures at the Hattiesburg Zoo represent six of the seven continents, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Some of the most beloved animals by guests include the giant anteater, the two-toed sloth, Chilean flamingoes, and giraffes.

Visitors can also get up close with their favorite animals. At the Australian Wallaby Walkabout, you can walk through an area where the kangaroos hop around. The petting zoo is home to barn animals, where you can feed and pet them. And the monthly sloth experience is not to be missed, letting visitors learn about the animal from the zoo staff and go behind the scenes.
