Whether you’re a motorsports fan or just curious, make your way to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, Alabama, a short drive from Birmingham. Founded by collector and racing legend George Barber in the 1960s, the humble collection eventually developed into the largest motorcycle collection in the world and opened to the public in 1995.

What to See at the Barber Motorsports Museum
Today, the award-winning museum has rare pieces like a 1952 Victoria Bergmeister and has even been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The museum has over four floors of exhibits and is currently expanding. One floor has a repair shop and the others are separated into the year of creation and type of bike.
There are over 1,400 motorcycles from the last century made by manufacturers from all over the world. Names like Harley-Davidson, Honda, Indian, and BMW are just a few. They also have a few rare cars.
In addition to the museum itself, the grounds are now a destination for racing enthusiasts. It has a racetrack, open to the public, home to the Porsche Sport Driving School. The museum’s glass windows allow you to see drivers race past while you check out the exhibits. The grounds also host racing events and festivals throughout the year.
Tips for Visiting the Barber Motorsports Museum
Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is located at 6030 Barber Motorsports Pkwy, Leeds, Alabama 35094. They’re open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 12 to 5 pm. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children, and free for those under 3. Special tours are also offered and parking is included with admission.
Where to Eat Near the Barber Motorsports Museum
There’s an outpost of Buc-ees down the street from the museum, which has the gas station chain’s famous kolaches and sandwiches.
Rusty’s Bar-B-Q is a mom-and-pop barbecue restaurant with pork plates, sandwiches, and all the sides. The Backyard is an outdoor area with multiple restaurants including Neighbors Brew & Pies and Saw’s BBQ.
Where to Stay Near the Barber Motorsports Museum
The Barber Museum has partnerships with nearby hotels, so you can get a cheaper rate if you mention the museum. Hampton Inn Birmingham/Leeds is right down the street and offers a discount for visitors. The Holiday Inn Birmingham-Airport is located across the street from the airport and has a shuttle to the airport and the museum.
