Where to Stay in the North Carolina Triad

September 14, 2022 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

After writing guides about The Triad, including the best places to stay around the city, it became time for our own guide to accommodations in the cities of Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. There is a large diversity in the types and prices of properties spanning every loyalty program.

We’ve denoted which ones are our picks and which ones come highly recommended on travel websites so that you can be sure that you’re staying in the best place.

We occasionally accept complimentary accommodations in exchange for a review to offset costs but write honestly about our experiences.

Greensboro

Greensboro
Greensboro

Greensboro is a historic city where the textile industry came to prominence and is home to important Civil Rights Movement landmarks. It’s where the Triad’s main airport is located, so you’ll find more accommodation options here.

Greensboro Hotels

Proximity Hotel
Proximity Hotel

Located outside downtown, Grandover Resort Golf and Spa is a sprawling resort with two 18-hole golf courses, a top-notch spa, a fitness center, a free airport shuttle, four tennis courts, and on-site dining.

Hotel Denim takes its name from the product produced in town. Set a short drive from Greensboro’s attractions, this modern hotel has free parking, a business center, and free WiFi.

Named for the writer from Greensboro, the O. Henry Hotel is a stylish hotel with a fitness center, restaurant, and afternoon tea.

Partner property Proximity Hotel (review here) is a LEED-certified platinum and four-diamond award-winning hotel that has features like a popular restaurant, solar panels on the roof, and in-room coffee makers.

The Dailey Renewal Retreat B&B welcomes guests with easy access to the nearby university as well as free WiFi, daily breakfast, and private bathrooms. Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast is another option, also with daily breakfast, a balcony to relax on, and an on-site bar.

The Green Book-era Historic Magnolia House now operates as a bed and breakfast and restaurant. It hosted the likes of Tina Turner and Jackie Robinson.

Greensboro Airbnbs and Rentals

Like any major city, Greensboro has a number of rental options ranging from apartments to multi-room homes, available on sites like Booking.com and Airbnb. Canary Cottage is, as the name implies, painted in canary yellow, with two bedrooms and free WiFi. Vintage Chic Cottage has a charming garden.

Greensboro Camping

One of the few camping options nearby is the Greensboro KOA Journey, with RV sites, a dog park, and a swimming pool.

High Point

High Point
High Point

High Point is tied to its furniture and the High Point Market where they are sold. Despite hosting these quarterly events that bring in buyers from across the country, the city doesn’t have a wealth of hotels and accommodations, but rather most travel in from the bigger locales.

As we said, there aren’t many hotels in High Point, but the Wingate by Wyndham High Point is one of them. Rooms have flat-screen televisions and microwaves, with an indoor pool, fitness center, and airport shuttle also available.

High Point Inns and B&Bs

The Wyndham-affiliated JH Adams Inn is in the heart of downtown. Guests can enjoy rooms with balconies, bathtubs, and free WiFi.

The charming Seven Oaks Inn Bed and Breakfast has amenities that include bathrobes, daily breakfast, and a stunning garden.

High Point Airbnbs and Rentals

Bouldin House
Bouldin House

The Greenhouse is from the 1930s and has two bedrooms, with free WiFi, free parking, and a patio. The Historic Bouldin Carriage House is within walking distance of restaurants and shops, set above a historic home’s garage. The Lakefront home is another option, not far from downtown.

High Point Camping

Oak Hollow Campground is the High Point area’s campground, with tent and RV sites, WiFi, a swimming pool, and a lake.

Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem is a large city originally founded by the Moravian people from Europe. These days, it’s known for its ties to the tobacco and banking industries. There are excellent hotels and inns in restored historic buildings.

Winston-Salem Hotels

Brookstown Inn

Stay in luxury at Graylyn, the former residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Gray, now a hotel and conference center run by Wake Forest University. It has 85 guest rooms in the 1930 estate or its adjoining cottages.

Guests of the Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center can take advantage of free daily breakfast and easy access to historic Old Salem.

The Historic Brookstown Inn (review here) is set in a Moravian mill with comfy bedding and large living spaces. Forty guest rooms include free WiFi, flat-screen televisions, and coffee-makers.

Located in the historic Pepper building, Hotel Indigo Winston-Salem takes on an Art Deco-style inspiration. It has an in-house restaurant and wine bar, and pet-friendly rooms.

Opened in the former R.J. Reynolds building, the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel (review here) offers hip furnishings and common areas. It has its own restaurant and “rec room” with bowling and foosball.

With easy access to downtown Winston-Salem, The Shaffner Inn offers the best of everything, including free breakfast, kitchenettes, and luxurious bathrooms.

The Zevely Inn inside the Old Salem Historic District has antique furnishings in the cozy rooms and a daily breakfast. It’s within walking distance of local attractions.

Winston-Salem Airbnbs and Rentals

Ardmore Studio
Ardmore Studio

Rentals are a great option in Winston-Salem because you can check out unique neighborhoods. We stayed at this 70s-inspired basement apartment and loved how close it was to nearby shops and restaurants.

For another funky option, you’ve never seen anything like this 80s-inspired rental with a massive video and arcade game collection. Y

Winston-Salem Camping

Nearby Hanging Rock State Park offers the closest campgrounds to Winston-Salem. The facility also has RV and tent sites. You also might find Harvest Hosts sites at Yadkin Valley wineries if you’re traveling with your RV.
