Classic Eats is a series about old-school and beloved Southern dining establishments. Do you have suggestions? Leave them in the comments.

Carter’s Grill and Restaurant is Albany, Georgia’s most beloved soul food establishment. Located near the Albany Civil Rights Institute, this is a popular lunch spot for its massive portions and reasonable prices. The dishes are made daily and are cafeteria-style. Carter’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What you should order completely depends on the day, as the menu changes depending on the day of the week. A meat and three is the best way to get a little bit of everything, as I did on my recent visit. The fried chicken is juicy and crispy and the rice and gravy and collard greens make nice sides.
