Known as “Atlanta‘s Dining Room,” Mary Mac’s Tea Room is perhaps the most well-known restaurant in the city. Beloved by tourists and celebrities, the downtown eatery is known for its soul food. The space sprawls between multiple rooms and lives up to its “tea room” name, even though the only tea you’ll be drinking is cold and sugary.
Little has changed on Mary Mac’s menu since its inception in 1945. Bring your stretchy pants for this meal, which will be hearty. The fried chicken is heralded as one of the best in the city but the fresh vegetables and sides and desserts are also worth a try. Order a few items to share between you and your dining companions. Simply mark what you want with your mini golf-style pad and pencil.
Don’t be alarmed when goodwill ambassador Jo Carter comes by to rub your shoulders. It’s all a part of the experience. Admire the wall of pictures with celebrities, including actors, politicians and writers, and stay on the lookout for a sighting of your own.
