Southern Stays: The Elwood Hotel & Suites

February 12, 2024 By Caroline Eubanks Leave a Comment

Elwood Hotel
Elwood Hotel

Opened in October 2021, the Elwood Hotel & Suites is located in the medical district of Lexington, Kentucky, not far from Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate, the Mary Todd Lincoln House, the Arboretum State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, and the Keeneland Racecourse.

The striking design includes a large mural painted on the hotel’s exterior by artist Alixandra Jade through a partnership with LexArts, a local arts group. It even takes its name from the first female-owned Kentucky Derby winner.

The Elwood Hotel has 62 pet-friendly guest rooms, including extended-stay residential suites with separate living areas. The design takes inspiration from Lexington’s history, with room dividers inspired by horse stall doors.

Guests also have access to microwaves, fridges, and coffee makers in the seating area. The lobby also has free tea and coffee in the mornings. The Elwood also calls itself a “plant hotel” with plants within each room, plus abundant foliage throughout the property. There’s also a fitness center on-site.

Fiddletree Kitchen & Bar is the hotel’s restaurant, with a menu inspired by Southern flavors, including sandwiches and pasta. As you’d imagine, the bar has an abundant selection of Kentucky bourbons, plus local craft beer. The space, which has indoor and outdoor seating, also hosts live music.
