The year’s biggest hit, The Hunger Games, is based on the books of Suzanne Collins. They are set in a futuristic world where the people are divided up into districts that must compete in the Hunger Games to prove their submission to The Capitol.
Katniss Everdeen takes the place of her younger sister in the games and must fight to the death against other children to survive. Newcomer Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss alongside Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, and Lenny Kravitz.
This is the first film in the trilogy and filming has already begun for the sequel, Catching Fire. The movie is not for young children, as it depicts violent and gruesome deaths, but Lawrence shines as the brave Katniss.
Filmed In: Cedar Mountain, Barnardsville, Black Mountain, Asheville, Charlotte, Concord, Hildebran and Shelby, North Carolina, as well as parts of DuPont State Forest, North Fork Reservoir, and Pisgah National Forest.
