The Foothills town of Shelby, North Carolina has around 20,000 full-time residents. The town has a yearly Livermush festival, a unique gathering devoted to the dish. Among the attractions you’ll find here are a historic carousel, a children’s train ride, the Don Gibson Theatre and the Earl Scruggs Center. There’s also a thriving downtown, home to a number of shops, restaurants and, most recently, Newgrass Brewing Company, a local craft brewer. Scenes from the first installment of The Hunger Games were filmed here.
