This week’s Small Town Saturday is in honor of my sister Rachel, who is now back in Athens, GA to attend her second year at the University of Georgia. Many college towns don’t seem to have much going on outside of the school, but Athens is rich in Antebellum history and has a music scene that famously supported bands R.E.M. and the B-52s. It’s also developing a well-known restaurant scene, particularly with Chef Hugh Acheson’s restaurants The National and Five and Ten. The image above is a railroad trestle featured in R.E.M.’s album cover for Murmur.
