My family all went to my aunt’s lake house on Lake Barkley in Kentucky last year and while I wasn’t able to go, my mom took some fantastic pictures of the trip.
This one in particular is from Eddyville, Kentucky, known best as being the home to the Kentucky State Penitentiary. It’s known as “The Castle on the Cumberland” for its stone architecture.
It’s the oldest prison in the state, completed in 1886. While it looks beautiful on the outside, the prison houses the state’s most dangerous criminals in its supermax units.
Special thanks to Amy Eubanks for the use of her photo.
