Driving from Warm Springs to Lagrange, you might blink and miss the small town of Mountville. Now little more than a few homes and buildings, the town was based around the local Methodist church in 1828.
It’s one of the oldest settlements in the state of Georgia, located between Troup and Merriweather counties. A store was set up at the crossroads of two major roads to get business from travelers and was later a post office, pictured above. It also had an early race track and suffered some destruction during the Civil War.
