The city of Rome has less than 40,000 residents but is home to Berry College. Named after the Italian city, Rome is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Native Americans settled nearby before the Civil War devastated the area.
The Old Mill, pictured above, was constructed in 1930 and has one of the world’s largest waterwheels. It was used to grind corn into meal and grits. Today, Rome has its own minor league baseball team and has been used as a filming location for various movies and television shows.
