Sheldon is a small unincorporated community of 5,000 people outside of Beaufort, South Carolina. The area is still very rural and made up of farms and former plantations. Nearby are the Old Sheldon Church Ruins. Another odd attraction is the African village of Oyotunji, a part of the New World Yoruba initiative created in 1970. A dozen or so families live in the village, which is open to visitors.
