Far more than your average Westin hotel, the Poinsett Greenville is a historic landmark building built in 1925. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
Named for Joel R. Poinsett, the citizen of South Carolina served in the government, including the minister to Mexico. It was built to hold the attendees of a textile convention and it cost $1.5 million to build. It fell on hard times in the 1950s but was revitalized in the 1990s.
