With a population of around 35,000, Tupelo, Mississippi is perhaps best known for its connection to Elvis Presley, who was born here. Named for the type of tree of the same name, the city was home to a number of Native American tribes up until the Trail of Tears. It also was home to a Civil War battle and the battlefield has been designated by the National Park Service. In modern times, a major Toyota plant opened nearby. Local attractions include the Natchez Trace Parkway, the Elvis Presley Birthplace and the Tupelo Automobile Museum.
