I’ve had the opportunity to stay in several Atlanta hotels, but perhaps none felt as deeply entrenched in the neighborhood as The Darwin. Set in the historic Old Fourth Ward, once home to the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Sears regional headquarters, it’s part of voco, under IHG Hotels.
The brand takes pride in taking on the personality of its destinations, and here, you’ll find a mural in the lobby by a local artist, tying into the art on the nearby Beltline trail.

The entire neighborhood has artwork inspired by the neighborhood, with prints from Atlanta landmarks like Waffle House. Standard rooms include king and queen bed arrangements. The suites are themed with inspiration from film, music, and books. Cats and dogs are allowed to stay for a fee, with several parks and green spaces within walking distance.
Amenities at The Darwin Hotel
The hotel has an on-site fitness center with Peloton bikes and weekly yoga offered on the patio every Thursday. Guests enjoy on-site parking for $30 per day, but you can come and go as you please. There are also bikes and scooters for rent in the neighborhood for short jaunts.
Perhaps the biggest perk of the hotel is its location, a few blocks from Ponce City Market. It’s ideal for those visiting town for an event like Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, Atlanta Pride, and Shaky Knees. I stayed during the World Cup, and it was around 10 minutes away.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar has a marketplace section with grab-and-go drinks and snacks, plus there’s a local selection at the front desk. Complimentary coffee is offered from a local roaster every morning. In the evening, the restaurant has a full menu, including local craft beer, wings, and other shareables. We found it to be lively when we stopped by for our free champagne. The property also hosts weekly events like happy hour and restaurant pop-ups.
