After writing guides for countless publications about Atlanta, including the best places to stay around the city, it became time for our own guide to accommodations. There is a large diversity in the types and prices of properties spanning every loyalty program.
We’ve denoted which ones are our picks and which ones come highly recommended on travel websites so that you can be sure that you’re staying in the best place. We occasionally accept complimentary accommodations in exchange for a review to offset costs but write honestly about our experiences.

Atlanta Accommodations
Don’t limit yourself to just one type of accommodation!
Atlanta Hotels

Looking for an Atlanta hotel? Look no further. In the city, you’ll find both big-name hotel chains, like Marriott, Intercontinental, and Hilton, along with a few more boutique brands. There are mega properties with hundreds of rooms and small locations with a cozy atmosphere.
Hotels are the preferred type of accommodation for visitors to the city due to the abundance of options in many neighborhoods. Shop around on multiple websites, but we prefer Booking.com and Hotels.com.
Atlanta Airbnb and Rentals

Did you know that Atlanta is home to the most requested Airbnb property in the world? The home rental giant has locations all around the city, especially in neighborhoods where you won’t find any hotels.
This allows visitors to have a more local experience, either staying with a resident or in a rental property. You’ll find all sorts of properties, including single rooms in bungalows, carriage houses above garages, and even teepees and converted shipping containers.
We’ve stayed in a few Airbnbs in Atlanta during events and staycations over the years and can recommend the lofts in Edgewood Avenue, pictured, and apartments in Castleberry Hill.
Before you stay, find out about the check in process (key or code entry), parking, and safety of the neighborhood. If it’s your first time staying with Airbnb, you can use this link to receive a $40 discount. Hotel-style apartments can also be rented on Booking.com.
Atlanta Area Camping

If you’re traveling with an RV, you are in luck, but you won’t find campgrounds within the city limits. Instead, you’ll have to seek out nearby state parks, including Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville, around 40 minutes drive, and Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, around 30 minutes drive.
Red Top Mountain’s lakefront campsites have powered and non-powered campsites for RVs and tents, along with cottages. Sweetwater Creek’s campsites are only for tents, but they also have yurts for “glamping.”
Stone Mountain has over 200 campsites with RV and tent sites, safari-style permanent tents, yurt rentals, and RV rentals. The campground is around 35 minutes from downtown. You’ll want a car to drive into town as these areas aren’t serviced by public transportation.
Atlanta Neighborhoods
Atlanta is made up of dozens of unique neighborhoods, but some appeal to travelers more than others. Access to public transportation might be important or the ability to walk to local restaurants. Some of the most appealing areas might not have plentiful hotels, so keep that in mind as well.
Buckhead

Located north of downtown, Buckhead is serviced by major highways and two MARTA rail stations as well as buses direct to Arts Center. There are a number of large companies set up here, including at Atlanta Tech Village, so it’s popular with business travelers.
But there are two major malls and shopping areas as well as some of the city’s top restaurants. While the roads are wide and busy, it is mostly walkable, but keep an eye on cars. Hotels like the W, Westin, Intercontinental, and The Whitley are set up here.
Midtown

Another area popular with business travelers, you don’t need a car if you’re staying in Midtown. Walk to your meetings or hop on MARTA for easy access to the airport and the rest of the city.
It’s also an easy bike ride or walk into Piedmont Park. All of the major hotel chains have locations here, ranging from budget-friendly to luxury. This includes the Loews, Renaissance, Hotel Indigo, W, Hyatt, and Crowne Plaza.
Downtown

Many travelers only look at hotels in downtown Atlanta, especially if they’re visiting for the first time due to the proximity to the tourist attractions. This area is also popular for conferences, events, and festivals around the sporting arenas and convention centers.
The downtown hotels are taller than those in other neighborhoods, offering views of the surrounding area. Here you’ll find brands like Marriott, Hyatt, and Hampton Inn.
Decatur

Decatur is home to Agnes Scott College and Emory University, so its hotels generally appeal to families of students and the occasional business traveler.
But this neighborhood is ideal for visitors to the city because it is highly walkable to top-rated restaurants and easily accessible to downtown via MARTA rail service. There’s a Courtyard Marriott in the heart of Decatur, the Emory Conference Center Hotel, and The University Inn at Emory.
Best Hotels in Atlanta
Since we live in Atlanta, there aren’t ample opportunities to stay in hotels, but a few staycations and media stays have allowed us to check out some of the best hotels in the city. We have personally stayed in each of the below-mentioned properties.
Hotel Clermont

One of the newest properties in town, this long-abandoned motor lodge building was revitalized by a local hotel group. Located in the popular Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, the Hotel Clermont is within walking distance of trendy restaurants and shopping at Ponce City Market, along with the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail.
Inside the hotel, there are multiple room types, including king and queen rooms, suites, and even bunk bedrooms for families or groups. They have televisions, sound machines, free WiFi, and toiletries made especially for Hotel Clermont. Rooms are covered in artwork and chic wallpaper.
The hotel has plenty of Instagrammable spaces, including the rooftop bar, an in-house coffee shop, the lobby cocktail bar, and Tiny Lou’s, a French restaurant in the basement. And, of course, the Clermont Lounge is at the bottom level and is a notorious dive bar and strip club. It stays open until 3 am, so keep this in mind when booking your room.

InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta Hotel

The stylishly renovated Buckhead hotel is right near the area’s best restaurants and shopping but, when you’re inside, feels worlds away from the noise. The luxury property has a wide array of rooms with king or two queen beds.
The rooms have plush velvet headboards and work desks, as well as a soaking bathtub with Byredo toiletries in the bathroom. There are also Club Level rooms with lounge access for daily breakfast and other perks. The suites feel like homes unto themselves.
The hotel is also home to Americano, an Italian restaurant run by Chef Scott Conant known for its delicious steaks, spaghetti Bolognese, and craft cocktails. There’s also an onsite fitness center and spa.

Loews Atlanta Midtown Hotel

We got to stay at this centrally located hotel in 2016, experiencing one of the suites. Popular with festivalgoers to events like Atlanta Food & Wine Festival as well as visiting celebrities, it’s close to area museums, including the Margaret Mitchell House, as well as some of the city’s award-winning restaurants.
There are over 400 guest rooms set among 26 floors, including suites, with views of the Federal Reserve Bank and downtown beyond. Rooms come with free WiFi, coffee makers, flat-screen televisions, blackout curtains, and cozy bathrobes. In addition, the Loews has Exhale, a spa and fitness center, and Saltwood, a charcuterie-focused restaurant.
The Loews is within walking distance of Piedmont Park and the Midtown MARTA Station, which accesses the airport. Guests also have access to car service, which can drop you off at places around town.

Omni CNN Center Atlanta Hotel

If you’re visiting Atlanta for the first time, there’s nowhere better to stay in terms of sightseeing than the Omni CNN Center Atlanta Hotel, located across the street from the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca Cola. Renovated just in time for the Atlanta Super Bowl, this is also ideal for anyone attending a sporting event at Mercedes Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena or an event at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Made up of two buildings, one connected to CNN’s headquarters, both overlook downtown, with one side overlooking Centennial Olympic Park. Guest rooms are non-smoking and have free high-speed Internet for Select Guest program members, which is free to join. Rooms have televisions and cozy bathrobes.
The hotel also has plenty of dining options, including Latitudes Bistro, Prime Meridian Restaurant, and Morsel’s Coffee Shop. There are even more in CNN Center food court and across the street. Castleberry Hill and its restaurants are a short walk away, as is Peachtree Center.

Westin Buckhead Atlanta

If you’re looking for a well-priced hotel in the heart of Buckhead, the Westin is ideal. You can walk across the street to Lenox Square mall, where there are dozens of stores of all types as well as restaurants. Some of these shops even offer discounts when you show your room key. This hotel is a part of the brand’s fitness initiative, so they offer a New Balance gear lending program and running maps of the area.
Rooms and suites overlook the buildings and malls of Buckhead and are outfitted with the brand’s signature Heavenly beds and bathrobes. They have large windows that let in natural light, but can also be blocked out with curtains. Headboards come with reading lights and there’s also a flat screen television. Bathrooms have waterfall shower heads and plush towels.
The Westin has an in-house coffee shop, the award winning Palm Restaurant and 24 hour in room dining. Spend time in the fitness center or indoor pool. There’s also the Tangent work space, executive suite, and meeting rooms available for rent.

Westin Atlanta Peachtree Plaza

There are few buildings as visible on the Atlanta skyline as the Westin, known for its circular building. It’s one of the tallest structures downtown, so there are unrivaled views, as well as one of the tallest hotels in the nation. Located near Peachtree Center, it’s easy to access Americasmart, the Georgia World Congress Center, and other parts of the city by MARTA rail.
Rooms take on an unusual shape because of the design of the building, but the floor to ceiling windows provide stunning views, no matter what floor you’re staying on.
Built in 1976 by local architect John Portman, there are over 1,000 rooms across over 70 floors. They come with the signature Heavenly beds and flat screen televisions. I found my room to be a bit dark, even with the windows and artificial light.
The revolving Sun Dial restaurant at the top has long been a favorite for special occasions by locals and visitors alike. Bar 73 is the restaurant’s bar. The Cafe is the Westin’s breakfast restaurant, along with Bar 210, a casual pub. There’s even a Starbucks in the lobby. There’s also an onsite fitness center and indoor/outdoor pool.
